UGI Practitioner
UGI Practitioner
is a product currently in development at the Centre for Health Evidence in
conjunction with JAMA to address the needs of practitioners of EBM.
Where UGI Learner
affords a comprehensive package to the learner of EBM, UGI
Practitioner helps learners make the transition to
practitioners of EBM. The Practitioner offering provides all the
functionality of UGI Learner
. Additionally,
it simplifies access to a number of quality evidence-based information
resources and integrates these with the Users’ Guides. All resources
are organized and presented through a unique Internet "desktop" technology
that simplifies and focuses the users' experience of best evidence and the guides.
UGI Practitioner
includes the entire UGI Learner
Web site, plus the following:
- Integration:
UGI Practitioner
is delivered through a secure Web site and integrated
Internet desktop technology called VIVIDESK™. This
is a "Distributed Desktop Portal" that allows multiple
subscriptions to be accessed simultaneously. Information in one
resource (e.g. Users' Guides) can be linked to information in
other resources (e.g. databases, electronic textbooks and journals,
Web sites, etc.). This same technology supports messaging, alerts,
communications and simultaneous access to multiple resources under
a single Internet interface. For more information, please go to
UGI Desktop.
- Evidence Distillates and Repositories: UGI Learner content is
packaged with other high-quality resources, such as select
electronic textbooks or evidence distillates. Which products are
used will depend upon vendor agreements and/or the licensed
resources already available to a group. Publicly available EBM
Internet resources are also integrated on UGI
Practitioner
Desktops.
- Evidence Consultation:
The Centre for Health Evidence has
considerable experience organizing and deploying evidence-based
resources. Consultations with the UGI Practitioner
partner groups will
ensure that the best possible product is developed for each group. This
consultation may involve needs assessment, technology assessment,
evaluations or other methods to ensure that the Users’ Guides and
Evidence Resource package meet the needs, and honors the licensing
rights, of the UGI Practitioner
clients.
